Between Bites

The idea for Between Bites was born over dinner with Molly Each and Rachel Gillman Rischall in the fall of 2012. The idea was to create a quarterly live literary series that would feature local media telling a personal food story that pertained to a particular theme.

We decided to add a philanthropic angle, allowing the hosting restaurant to pick a charity of their choice. It took an entire year, but the inaugural event kicked off at TWO in the fall of 2013. Since then, we’ve hosted quarterly events at different venues around town, each with a different set of readers, theme and setting.  

Past themes have included Ripe/Rotten, Food Firsts, Lost/Found, Inside/Outside, The Witching Hour, Food Porn and Hot/Cold. As the series has evolved, chefs, industry tastemakers and TV personalities have shared their stories to sold-out audiences at Between Bites. As a 5019(c)3, we’ve raised more than $60,000 for local charities, from The Greater Chicago Food Depository to the James Beard Scholarship Fund.
